A New Vinyl Manufacturing Plant Has Opened

Written by on July 12, 2017

A new vinyl manufacturing plant has opened in Seoul, South Korea.

As the Korea Times reports, the now-operational Machang Music & Pictures has become the country’s first active pressing plant since Seorabul Record Co. closed down in 2004. After a three-year development period, Machang is now manufacturing around 1,000 records each day. This is split between new-release domestic music and reissues of prized jazz and classical albums from the past, although the Times indicates that the plant will look to expand the scope of its output to attract overseas customers in the future.

The news comes two weeks after Sony announced it would re-enter the vinyl manufacturing market, opening a pressing plant in Japan which focuses on the growing Asian market.
